Mangrove Root Crab

Mangrove root crabs can get to be about 6.3 cm in length with a square dark brown hard outer shell and white spots along the edges. They vary in color, have small red eyes, and don’t have hair on their claws. They are important to the mangroves because they are food for other species. When they eat leaf litter and organic material around the mangrove roots, they contribute to the recycling of nutrients.
